Activity Instructions
Kids discuss the United States’ Bill of Rights. Remind kids that the original ten amendments to the U.S. Constitution are called the Bill of Rights and that there are currently 27 amendments to the Constitution.
- Briefly remind kids of the basic principles of the Bill of Rights.
- Provide kids with a Spanish version of the United States’ Bill of Rights.
- Select an amendment to discuss, such as the First Amendment (freedom of religion, speech, press, or the right to assemble). Go over the one you have chosen, making sure that the students understand the language and the concepts.
- Ask kids to consider why these amendments were important at the time and ask if they are still important today. Have kids explain their answers.
- Finally, ask kids what additional amendments they would like to see enacted today and why.
