Activity Instructions
Kids create Australian animal trading cards.
Estimated Time: 45 minutes
Materials Needed: Blank index cards, drawing supplies, reference materials about Australian animals
- Explain that on her travels, Carmen learns that the Australian Outback is a huge wilderness that covers 80% of the country and is home to many amazing creatures. As a class, create a list of Australian animals. Your list may include: dingo, kangaroo, crocodile, koala, wombat, wallaby, platypus, echidna, cassowary, bandicoot, brolga, dugong, kookaburra, and emu.
- Allow your kids to select an Australian animal to make a trading card for. Kids should draw a picture of the animal on the front of a trading card. On the back, kids should list statistics and facts about the animal including its habitat, food, predators, and interesting adaptations.
- If time allows, kids can make more than one trading card.
